You never get a second chance to make that first impression and everyone knows that a first impressions count. Wrinkles and frown lines are natural aging processes that develop over time. Modern facial rejuvenation treatments eliminate wrinkles reducing the effects of aging and help you look younger, so as you read this now, think about which lines and wrinkles you would like to reduce.
What is ‘Botox’ or Botulinum Toxin?
This is infact a purified protein produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. It is safe in small doses used during treatments as the clinican will inject very very small quantities into specific muscle. This protein causes temporary muscle inactivation which in turn removes the signs of lines, wrinkles and crows feet around the eyes and face.
What damaged is causes to the muscle?
The protein works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses. This stops the signal to the injected muscle stopping it from A less active muscle results in a softer smoother skin and the appearance of persistent lines and wrinkles reduce or disappear. The result is temporary which wears off over a four month period.
How many treatments are needed?
In most cases one treatment with one vial is sufficient to treat most areas. The protein works gradually, smoothing and softening wrinkles after this session. Everyone responds differently to the protein and the sooner the protein is removed the more muscle activity will return to that muscle. Of course we will advise you on how many cosmetic facial treatments you’re likely to need and how often, depending on the results you’d like to achieve.
How long does the Botulinum Toxin work for?
The effects of Botulinum Toxin or Botox often last up to four months, depending on the patient. If you decide to stop treatment, any permanent lines and wrinkles will gradually return.
Is the treatment painful?
It’s very rare for treatment with the Botulinum Toxin to be painful. Most patients experience a feeling of slight discomfort during the treatment itself but that’s all. We will talk you through what to expect before your first injection of course, so you’ll be fully prepared prior to treatment.
What about fillers?
While the Botulinum Toxin is traditionally used for the areas around the eyes and above, fillers are used below the eyes, especially around the mouth. Fillers are not and should never be permanent but can be used to soften these areas to restore the appearance. There are many brands but here we use Juvederm.Back to Blog
