Check-Ups

Routine care for your happy and healthy smile

The most common reason to visit your dentist is for your routine examination. Regular dental check-ups allow us to identify any dental problems you may have as early as possible and keep your mouth healthy and pain-free. Not every dental issue is noticeable, so it takes a dentist to spot and treat any signs of decay or gum disease.

Why are regular check-ups important?

Protect your smile with proactive dental care. Your regular visits give us the chance to spot any potential problems before they can get any worse, preventing costly and complex treatments down the line. We can also spot if your brushing routine at home needs any refinements or improvements to safeguard your oral health.

We love seeing you at your regular check-up appointments and helping you keep your teeth and gums healthy. We’re always happy to give you personalised advice and guidance, ensuring you leave with the knowledge and confidence to maintain your healthy smile.

What happens during a check-up?

At each dental check-up, we examine your teeth, gums and mouth to give a comprehensive assessment of your oral health. We look for any signs of decay, infection or other issues, so these can be effectively treated. We also carry out an oral cancer screening as standard.

We also provide tailored advice for your dental health, teeth-cleaning habits, your diet, and lifestyle choices such as smoking and alcohol use.

After your dental check-up, we recommend a date for your next visit. People with good oral health will probably need to attend only once every 6 months, but those with more problems may need dental check-ups more often.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I see the dentist?

You should aim to see your dentist for a check-up twice a year. However, you may not need to see us every six months and your dentist will let you know when you need to come back for your next check-up. If you have any problems between check-ups please phone us to arrange an earlier appointment.

Does a dental check-up hurt?

A dental check-up shouldn’t hurt. During your visit, we carefully check your teeth and gums for signs of decay or infection, using small and sterile tools. You may feel some discomfort if we need to scrape one of your teeth or use suction, but this is short-lived.

Do I need x-rays?

X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool. Your dentist will recommend them based on your needs. They help detect issues that aren't able to be seen during a visual exam.

What should I do if I’m worried about my dental visit?

If you’re feeling worried, please tell us. We will do all we can to make you more comfortable, including using relaxation techniques or providing sedation to relax you. We’re here to give you a positive experience and the best care.
