What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a fast, safe, and completely pain-free way to repair tooth damage or improve the appearance of your smile. It is a very popular cosmetic dental treatment, and can change the shape, size and even colour of your teeth with incredible results.

The composite material is applied directly to your tooth, so it is a non-invasive procedure with no need to remove any natural tooth structure. In just a single appointment, we can transform the way you feel about your teeth and help you achieve a smile you can’t wait to show off!

Spread the cost of your dental bonding

Our finance options, arranged via Chrysalis, can give you the chance to spread the cost of your dental bonding over monthly payments, subject to status. Please get in touch with our friendly team for more information.

Our composite bonding treatment steps

Step 1: Consultation

At the start of your composite bonding treatment, we examine your teeth and gums, making sure they are healthy and that you are suitable for treatment. We ask you what you want to change about your teeth, and answer any questions you have.

Step 2: Preparation

We carefully plan your treatment to achieve the best results for you. This includes colour-matching the composite material to the shade of your natural teeth for a seamless repair, or selecting a brighter shade if you prefer.

Step 3: Bonding

We dry your tooth and use a special acidic gel to prepare the surface and allow the composite to bond effectively. We then apply the composite material to your tooth in layers, gradually building up the new shape and size until we are both happy with the look.

Step 4: Results!

We harden the composite material on your tooth using a blue light, and it sets immediately. To finish your teeth bonding treatment, we polish the composite so it looks and feels smooth, shiny and natural. Your new smile is ready to show off!

Frequently asked questions

How long does composite bonding last?

Composite bonding can last up to 10 years if it is looked after properly. This includes keeping up with a great oral hygiene routine at home, avoiding biting into very hard foods, and visiting your dentist for regular check up appointments.

How much does composite bonding cost per tooth?

At our practice in Sandhurst, composite bonding costs from £150 per tooth. We offer a range of payment options, including interest-free and interest-bearing payments, to give you the chance to spread the cost, subject to status. Please talk to us for more information.

Is composite bonding reversible?

Yes, composite bonding is completely reversible. No natural enamel structure needs to be removed for the treatment, unlike other treatments such as porcelain veneers. This means your tooth structure remains solid and the composite resin material can be removed if necessary. There are usually no lasting effects on your natural teeth.

Does composite bonding teeth treatment hurt?

Composite bonding treatment doesn’t hurt at all! Its pain-free nature is a large reason why it is so popular with patients looking for a simple and effective cosmetic option. Composite bonding is non-invasive, with no drilling required at all.

What are the disadvantages of composite bonding?

Composite bonding is considered a very effective solution, especially for minor cosmetic issues. However, it is not as durable as other materials, and may need to be repaired or replaced sooner. It also has the potential to stain if you are a smoker or enjoy a lot of tea, coffee, red wine and other staining foods and drinks. Your dentist can give you some diet and lifestyle tips to maintain your results for as long as possible.
