Why choose ceramic braces?

If you want your teeth straightened but don’t want everyone to notice your braces, ceramic braces are a great choice. They’re made with clear or tooth-coloured brackets and wires that blend right in with your natural teeth, so they’re much less obvious than metal braces. This means you can feel more confident smiling during your treatment, whether you’re at work, out with friends, or just going about your day.

Ceramic braces work just as well as traditional braces for correcting a range of orthodontic concerns, from minor adjustments to more complex issues. They are also designed with patient comfort in mind, with smooth surfaces to minimise irritation.

What does the treatment involve?

During your initial consultation, we examine your teeth and gums and make sure you are suitable for ceramic braces. We explain the treatment process and ask you about your dream straight smile. We also give you the chance to ask us any questions you may have.

We design your custom-made brackets using advanced digital technology, including detailed scans and images of your teeth. When your brackets are ready, we bond them to the front surface of your teeth using strong dental cement, and thread the wire through.

Your braces stay fixed to your teeth for the duration of your treatment, with the wire exerting light forces to move your teeth to their new straight positions. We see you for regular appointments throughout, checking your progress and making adjustments to your braces to ensure the best possible outcome.

When your treatment is complete, we carefully remove your brackets and wire to reveal your new smile! We make sure you are happy with your results and fit a fixed or removable retainer to keep your teeth straight for the long term.

Frequently asked questions

Do ceramic braces stain?

The ceramic brackets themselves are very stain resistant, but the elastic ties that hold the archwire in place can stain. Avoiding staining foods and drinks, and practicing good oral hygiene will minimise this. We can also replace the elastic ties if needed during your next appointment.

How long does treatment with ceramic braces take?

Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of your case, but it typically ranges from 6-24 months, similar to traditional braces.

Are ceramic braces comfortable?

While you may experience some initial discomfort as your mouth adjusts to the braces, modern ceramic braces are designed to be comfortable. They are smaller and smoother than ever before, and custom-made for your mouth.

How do I look after my ceramic braces?

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential to properly care for your ceramic braces. Brush and floss your teeth carefully, and use interdental brushes to clean the spaces around your brackets and between your teeth.

Do I need to avoid eating certain foods?

When you have ceramic braces on your teeth, you will need to avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods that could damage the brackets or wires. Your dentist will give you some bespoke advice for your individual case.

What happens after my braces come off?

You'll likely need to wear a retainer to maintain your new smile. Your dentist will discuss your retainer options with you.
